Senator Calls For End To Pay Raises
Senator Abel Maldonado, a life-long Santa Maria Republican is calling on his fellow politicians to work without pay increases. The senator has authored a constitutional amendment that would ban raises for elected state officials when the state's budget is in question. Maldonado feels that if Gov. Schwarzenegger is campaigning for a 10% cut across the board, then he must hold members of the Legislature to the same discretionary standard. The amendment would limit the governor, various government officials and legislators from receiving any pay raises when the legislative analyst determines there is a deficit. The Senate Rules Committee is expected to take up the issue for discussion this Wednesday.
