Costly Suicide Barrier May Go Forward
A proposal to build a fence on Cold Spring Bridge, to prevent suicides could cost between one and three million dollars. This proposal has some residents calling for a different, and less expensive solution. There have been 43 deaths from the bridge since it was built in 1963. A suicide prevention group, the Glendon Association, say fences have effectively reduced suicides from bridges across the country. But some residents say the famous bridge should not be altered.
