Quick thinking by a mother and grandfather in Thousand Oaks, saves a toddler from drowning on Mother's Day. Rescue workers say the scare is a warning to watch children around water. Backyard pools account for a majority of all drownings and a third of them happen at pools that belong to relatives. That was almost the case during a local Mother's Day celebration Sunday afternoon. KEY News Ventura County Bureau Chief spoke to the family of the toddler and has their story.

W.A.T.C.H stands for Water Awareness Training For Children in the Home
1. Yell for help and get the child out of the water
2. Call 911
3. Begin CPR
4. If you are not trained in CPR follow instructions given by the fire department over the phone until help arrives

Never take your eyes off children that are playing near water.
Don't rely on inflatable devices to keep children afloat.
Drownings can happen in the time it takes to answer a phone call.
