Nurse Raises Funds for Baby with Cancer
The nurse who planned the fundraiser didn't expect much but she was proved wrong. Over 300 residents and students from Aliso, Carpinteria and Ventura High schools donated.
The Garcia family is surprised that over $10,000 were raised from the fundraiser for baby Adrian. Cyndi Gilbert is Adrian's Pediatric nurse who came up with the idea of a fundraiser after Adrian's dad couldn't work because of an injury. The family is preparing for a check up that will tell their fate. On the 27th the 1-year-old will go to the hospital to see if the cancer behind his remaining eye has shrunk or if other procedures are needed to prevent the spread of cancer. Nurse Cindy is still getting calls of people wanting to donate. She says you can make your check payable to Adrian Garcia Fundraiser and mail it Care of Cindy to 7582 Vanduren Street, Ventura, CA 93003. Doctors realized Adrian had tumors in his eye when he was just two-months-old. The family was told either his eye would have to go or his life would. After surgery to remove his right eye due to Retinolastoma, cancer of the eye, four small cancer seeds were found behind his left eye. Cyndi makes home visits to change the toddler's dressings and maintain a central line connected to his heart for meds and chemotherapy. The family refers to her as an Angel. KEY NEWS Reporter Beth Farnsworth tells you why Adrian's parents are struggling to make ends meet. |
