State Unemployment Continues To Rise

SACRAMENTO, Calif.-- The state and the nation's unemployment rate continues to reach new heights.

In California, the unemployment rate climbed to 12.2 percent last month. A number that sets a new modern record.

August unemployment numbers rose from July's rate of 11.9 percent.

According to unemployment officials, there are now 2.2 million jobless in California, that's up 49,000 from July.

Manufacturing, trade, business services, leisure and other services led the state in job losses.

Across the county the jobless rate rose to 9.7 percent in August
from 9.4 percent in July

Some of the the biggest payroll cuts were seen in Texas, Michigan, Georgia and Ohio.
