Ask Dr. Oz: Post-Op #18

Steven Daniels

Audience member Sherine inquires about Acid Reflux (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). Dr. Oz states that about 1-5 Americans have the disease, where food or liquid travels backwards from the stomach to the esophagus, bringing acid from the stomach with it.

The disease can severely damage the throat and mouth, and can lead to serious complications. Beyond medication and diet, Dr. Oz recommends that Sherine prop her bed up slightly, so that when sleeping, the acid doesn’t travel back into her mouth as easily.

June-Ellen asks Dr. Oz to do a show with older people that have lead a healthy life, where they share their secrets to this success. Dr. Oz informs June-Ellen that he has just completed a show about this topic, and to be on the look-out for it soon.
