San Marcos has plenty of football players back from last year but unfortunately head football coach Jeff Hesselmeyer is gone. He died suddenly on July 23 but his imprint on this year's team will easily be seen.

Interim Head Coach Dale Perizzolo is using the same offense and defense that Hesselmeyer installed with a few minor changes. The Royals return four offensive lineman and should have a good running game behind senior Marquis Glover.

Gabe Loza is likely to start at quarterback. San Marcos won just one game last year and they hope to fare much better in their rivalry games against Dos Pueblos and Santa Barbara.

The Royals begin the year on September 2 in Lompoc against Cabrillo High School.
