KEY News Chief Meteorologist Alan Rose joined the Channel 3 news team in December 2005. His forecasts can be seen weeknights from the SkyTracker Weather Center at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m.

Alan received his Master's Degree in Geosciences with an emphasis on Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University in 2002. While in graduate school, Alan got his first taste of weather while working at WCBI-TV in Columbus, Mississippi. Prior to graduate school, Alan spent four years at the University of Alabama (Roll Tide), where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Communications. A big Crimson Tide football fan, Alan also competed as a scholarship athlete on the nationally ranked swimming and diving team as a 10 meter platform specialist.

Originally from Florida, Alan says he's adjusted well to life in California and the nice weather that our residents have come to expect. But while some people assume that working as a meteorologist in Southern California is easy, Alan is quick to prove them wrong. "Given that we cover such a large area that includes drastic changes in topography and geography, our weather here actually varies quite a bit depending upon your proximity to the ocean. These different 'microclimates' are most pronounced in the summer months when it can warm to well over 100 degrees in our valleys whereas at the coast, it might be completely cloudy and only in the 60s."

And when the weather turns dangerous like it did so many times during the 2008 and 2009 fire seasons, Alan keeps our viewers on storm watch. Alan and the KEY News Team provided hours of award winning coverage during the recent Jesusita Fire, which devastated the Santa Barbara hills in May 2009. He says that experience has been the most trying and difficult time so far in his career as lives and property were in imminent danger.

When not in the SkyTracker Weather Center, Alan enjoys spending his free time at the beach, playing tennis, working out, and exploring the tri-counties. In addition, he stays active in the community as much as possible by visiting schools or helping out with a handful of non-profit agencies found here locally.
