Ophelia is happy to finally settle back into her home state.
A San Francisco native, she moved to Orange County and studied Literary Journalism at UC Irvine. Meanwhile, she interned with KABC in Los Angeles and KTVU in the Bay Area.
Her adventure in broadcast news really began when she moved to the Cowboy State shortly after graduating. In Casper, Wyoming, she was awarded as one of the best breaking news reporters. She was KTWO's crime beat for two years.
When she had her next chance to move, she wasn't ready to leave the Rockies; she took a job with KOAA in Colorado Springs, Colorado. During her time there, she covered the Aurora Theater shooting and Colorado's wildfires, including the devastating Waldo Canyon fire. She learned the true impact of journalism during these trying times for the community.
In September 2013, Ophelia joined KEYT as one of their Santa Maria bureau reporters; there's nowhere else she'd rather be living and working. She hopes to use her experience to find and tell real and influential stories in Santa Maria and northern Santa Barbara County.
