NewsChannel 3 Chief Meteorologist Alan Rose has been a fixture on the Channel 3 news team since December 2005. His forecasts can be seen nightly at 5 pm, 6 pm, and 11 pm.

Alan received his Master's Degree in Geosciences with an emphasis on Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. While in graduate school, Alan landed his first on-air job at WCBI-TV in Columbus, Mississippi. Prior to that, he spent four years at the University of Alabama, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Communications. At Alabama, he competed as a scholarship athlete on the nationally ranked swimming and diving team as a 10 meter platform specialist.

Originally from Florida, Alan says he's adjusted well to life in California and the nice weather that our residents have come to expect. "Given that we cover such a large geographic area that includes drastic changes in topography, our weather here actually varies quite a bit depending upon your proximity to the ocean. These different 'microclimates' are more pronounced in summer when it can warm to well over 100 degrees in our valleys whereas at the coast, it might only be in the 60s."

And when weather becomes breaking news, Alan keeps our viewers on storm watch. Alan and the NewsChannel 3 Team provided hours of award winning coverage during the Jesusita Fire, which devastated the Santa Barbara hills in May 2009. He says that experience has been the most trying and difficult time so far in his career as lives and property were in imminent danger.

When not in the SkyTracker Weather Center, Alan enjoys spending his free time at the beach, playing tennis and working out. In addition, he stays active in the community by visiting schools or helping out with a handful of non-profit agencies.
