Chief Meteorologist Alan Rose has been a fixture with NewsChannel 3 since December 2005. His forecasts can be seen nightly at 5:00, 6:00 and 11:00, and now on FOX 11 News at 10:00.

Alan received his Master of Science degree from Mississippi State University. In graduate school, he worked as a meteorologist at WCBI-TV in Columbus, Mississippi. Prior to that, he spent four years at the University of Alabama, where he earned his Bachelor of Communications degree. At Alabama, he also competed as a scholarship athlete on the nationally ranked swimming and diving teams as a 10 meter platform specialist.

Alan says that after almost 10 years in California that he knows why anyone and everyone would want to move out here ... the weather! To the average person it might seem like our weather is on repeat, 70 degrees and sunny every day. But if you talk to Alan, he's quick to point out the forecast challenges that are unique to this area. "Living so close to the ocean gives us many different climate zones, or ‘microclimates’. These different 'microclimates' are most pronounced in the summer months when it can warm to well over 100 degrees in our valleys whereas at the coast, it might only be 60 and foggy."

Speaking of challenging, Alan still recalls the sheer power that Mother Nature displayed during the Tea and Jesusita Fires. Hot and dry winds of over 70 mph devastated the South Coast during these two wildfires, destroying homes and threatening lives for days at a time.

When he's not forecasting the weather, Alan enjoys spending his free time outdoors, watching movies, working out or catching up with friends and family. In addition, he stays active in the community by visiting schools and helping out with a handful of non-profit agencies...including the Dream Foundation, Flower Empower and Pacific Pride Foundation. Most recently, he joined the board of Directors with Pacific Pride, and says that he feels honored to work with such a wonderful organization.
