According to shop.org, about ninety three percent of e-retailers will offer free shipping this holiday season, but shoppers beware. Savings experts warn, many place restrictions and minimums on purchase orders. As a result, shoppers end up spending more.

In fact, last year, those who opted for free shipping, actually spent 45 percent more, than those who paid for postage. Experts have some guidelines to consider before you check out.

First, look ahead. If there are events you can shop for in advance, you can bundle your purchases to reach the minimum purchase requirements, without getting items you don't need.

Next, check return and exchange policies. And, if there is a coupon or promotional code option offered during checkout, you can typically find them by doing a quick online search.
